MRCPCH – Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health
- Applied Knowledge in Practice (AKP) theory examination
(knowledge synthesis/evaluation, clinical decision making, and management)
AKP tests a candidate’s knowledge, understanding, and clinical decision-making abilities based on a standard of someone entering their core specialist training and is part of the MRCPCH exam.
It comprises two exams, each of which is 2 hours 30 minutes and take on the same day. It used to be called MRCPCH Part 2.
What are the eligibility criteria for the MRCPch exam?
The theory examinations can be taken in the candidate’s order of preference. On successful completion of the 3 theory examinations (FOP, TAS, And AKP), candidates are eligible for entry to the MRCPCH Clinical Examination. Candidates will not be permitted to sit an examination unless they hold a recognized medical qualification. Further information can be found in the eligibility instructions.

Dates, fees, and venues
The exam is available in January, May, and Septmeber every Year. Further information can be found in the dates and fees document.
