The MRCPch Course part 1 consists of:

Foundation of Practice (FOP)
Theory and Science (TAS)

MRCPCh part 1 is available 3 times every year, in February, June, and October.

Number of attempts and validity

Candidate will be allowed up to 6 attempts at each part of MRCPCH, and required to finish the clinical exam within a seven-year from pass the last theory exam

Entry Requirements

candidates must provide the primary medical qualification to be eligible to sit the first exam

How many years must my theory examinations be valid for in order for me to be eligible to apply for/sit the MRCPCH Clinical Examination?

At least one of the MRCPCH theory examinations must have been successfully completed/be valid within the last 7 years.

If I have passed an examination before 1st July 2014, does it matter how many times I attempted to take it?

NO. This rule only affects examinations that you are still to pass and not those that have already passed

Exam Fees

£415 for 1 paper

Exam Format

FOP paper in 2.5 Hours and the questions are typically a combination of:
SBAs – 79 questions
EMQs – 6 questions (3 statements or clinical scenarios in each)
TAS paper takes 2.5 Hours, and The questions are typically a combination of:
SBAs – 70 questions
EMQs – 10 questions.
