MRCOG – Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) is a professional association based in London, United Kingdom.

The College’s primary object is given as “The encouragement of the study and the advancement of the science and practice of obstetrics and gynecology”.

The correct name for this certificate is membership of the Royal College, but it is well known in Egypt and the Arab countries as the fellowship.

Why MRCOG?

  • Qualifies you to work in England after obtaining an IELTS or OET certificate.
  • It opens the way for you to work in England with more opportunities than the Egyptian degree.
  • It can be equivalent to an Egyptian Ph.D. without having to prepare a Ph.D. letter.
  • One of the strongest certificates in the specialty and it has acceptance in many countries of the world.
  • It helps you to gain more experience, skills, and knowledge, which makes you able to accurately diagnose and deal with the most accurate and difficult cases.

What does the exam include?

The MRCOG exam is a three-part test that includes both theory and a practical assessment:

Is a written examination that consists of two papers, each one contains 100 SBA for two and a half hours and has half of the total exam score, and between them one hour rest.

Candidates must pass Part 1 MRCOG before taking Part 2 MRCOG.

It is a written examination that consists of two sheets, each sheet is counted with the same amount of marks (i.e. sheet one represents 50% of the mark, while sheet two also counts 50% of the score).

Each paper consists of two copies of the questions:

  • One Best Answer to Questions (SBAs) – worth 40% of the total score.
  • Extended Match Questions (EMQs) – worth 60% of the total score.

Candidates must pass Part 2 MRCOG before taking Part 3 MRCOG.

Is a clinical assessment of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies. Passing the third part exam leads to membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (MRCOG), and remains the primary waypoint for trainees in the UK to move from basic training to higher training (ST6 and ST7).

The clinical assessment consists of 14 tasks, each task being based on one of the 14 units detailed in the curriculum. Each of the units of the third part is evaluated in the context of 5 areas:

    • Patient safety.
    • Communication with patients and their relatives.
    • Communication with colleagues.
    • Data collection.
    • Applied clinical knowledge.

Each of the 14 assignments will assess between three to four areas to reflect daily clinical practice.

What does Connect Academy do for you to help you pass this exam?

After careful analysis of the exams and feedback from candidates who have previously taken the exam, CoNNect Academy has divided the problem into two main issues that most Doctors face:
1- The wide variety of study sources and books, as well as the lack of knowledge of new information in the specialty.
2 – Narrowing down the options to select the correct answer is also more difficult than expected.

And to ensure that you get the best quality of education you need, all our classes are taught by the most qualified lecturers who have already successfully passed all parts of your desired fellowship.
